8 Days Tanzania Wildebeest Migration Safari

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your adventure begins with a drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s largest parks located in the Manyara region. Tarangire is renowned for its vast elephant herds, tree-climbing lions, and iconic baobab trees, often referred to as the “Tree of Life” due to the mythical powers some cultures attribute to them. The Tarangire River, which flows year-round, is the park’s lifeblood and the only consistent water source for wildlife during the dry season.

Day 2: Serengeti National Park (Seronera)

After breakfast, we journey to the central Serengeti, known for its rich concentration of wildlife, especially the famous “Big Five”: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino. This world-famous park is a prime destination for spotting Tanzania’s majestic resident species.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

Today, we embark on a full-day game drive following the trails of the Great Migration. Our experienced guide will share fascinating insights into this extraordinary natural event, one of the reasons Tanzania is hailed as a premier safari destination. The Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage site, hosts around 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles, which accompany over a million wildebeests in their annual quest for fresh grazing grounds. The thunder of millions of hooves across the plains is an unforgettable experience.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park (Kogatende)

Today’s focus is a full-day game drive in the Mara area, where you’ll witness the Great Migration in action. Wildlife in the Wagakuria area is abundant, with the Mara River serving as a highlight. You may be lucky enough to catch the herds crossing the river—a dramatic and rare spectacle. This region, with its kopjes, woodlands, and open plains, mirrors the landscapes of Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park (North Mara)

We continue our exploration of northern Serengeti, again focusing on the Mara River crossings. Herds often migrate north one day and return south soon after, making sightings of this phenomenon a matter of timing and luck. The area’s scenic beauty, with its rich vegetation and diverse wildlife, adds to the allure of this region.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After a final morning game drive in Serengeti, we head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping at the Olduvai Gorge museum, a world-renowned archaeological site. Here, you’ll learn about the earliest signs of human ancestors, including preserved footprints dating back 3.6 million years.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater Tour

Start your day with an early morning game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, part of the eastern Rift Valley, is home to the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. This diverse ecosystem teems with wildlife and offers stunning vistas. It was established to conserve wildlife, protect indigenous cultures, and promote sustainable tourism.

Day 8: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

After breakfast, we’ll visit Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive. The park is famous for its scenic beauty and abundant birdlife, including flamingos. Later, we return to Arusha, where you can catch a flight home or continue exploring Tanzania.
