6 Days Best of Chimpanzee Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Budongo Forest (Travel Time +5 hours)

Your driver-guide will pick you up at your place of residence and then embark on your drive in northwest of Uganda with en-route stopper over at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track endangered white and black rhinos that are being restocked in the sanctuary, then processed to Masindi for lunch and after drive to Budongo Forest which located in Murchison Falls National Park Conservation area.

Day 2: Budongo Chimpanzee trekking and top of the falls visit

Begin your day with morning breakfast, then walk to the forest headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking Dos and Don’ts and thereafter start your primate walk in Budongo Forest guided by well-trained ranger guides. Your walk will expose you to other primates, birds, and different plant species in the forest and once you get into close proximity of one community/party of habituated chimpanzees, you will be allowed one hour of observations and photography, then back for lunch at your lodge.

After lunch, your driver will drive you to the top of the Falls to observe how water squeezes itself in a narrow gorge of 7 meters as exploding it flows downstream, proceed to lodge relax and prepare for the next day.

Day 3: Morning game drives and boat cruise on the Nile

Being your day with a cup of coffee, and your driver-guide with game ranger pick you up for morning game drive where you will have an opportunity to spot several antelopes, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes, buffaloes, and if luck, big cats such as leopards and lions and then return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy the boat cruise to the base of the falls. On your way from the jetty point to the bottom of the falls, you will spot several herds of buffaloes, crocodiles, hippos, waterbird species, and other wild animals as they flock River Nile to drink water. Continue upstream to the base of the falls to observe how water squeezes in a narrow gorge of 7 meters, later on, drive back to lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park. (Travel Time +8 hours)

In the morning after breakfast, you will embark on a long drive to Kibale National Park making some stopovers for lunch along the way and as well catching up with some bird species.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. (Travel time +3hrs)

After early breakfast, report at Kanyanchu Tourist Centre where tourist activities begin and set out to track chimpanzees in Kibale forest. The chances of viewing the chimps are over 90% but not a guarantee, you may spend over four hours in the jungle spotting chimpanzee, and thereafter you will back to the lodge for your lunch and then after transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park about 3-hour drive. You will have an opportunity of passing through small towns, see several foothills of Mountain Rwenzori, small rivers that originate from Rwenzori mountain ranges as well as cross the equator at Kikorongo.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking at Kyambura George and Return to Kampala (Travel Time +6HRS)

After breakfast, you will be driven to Kyambura George to join other trekkers for briefing, and after the start, you chimpanzee walk in the gorge. Game ranger guide will help you identify different flora and fauna residents in this gorge and once you find a community of chimpanzees, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them for photography. After Chimpanzee trekking, briefly drive through the game trails as you drive out of the Park to embark on your return journey to Kampala. En route in Mbarara for lunch and Igongo culture center (the historical ground for Ankole culture). Retreat from that and continue to Kampala, refresh and proceed to the airport for your flight back home.
